Broadband across Caen la mer

In order to assert its central role within a highly meshed territory (10,345km of optic fibre deployed throughout Calvados), Caen la mer must provide an increasingly widespread and efficient broadband network. And that's precisely what it does day after day through projects such as Caen.com and Vikman.

Caen.com

Community project for a broadband and « black » optic fibre telecommunications loop:

* a total of 115km, 97km of which were installed in 2005/2006
* 2 operators: Complétel for business and Free for residential.

Vikman

Interconnection network between regional « hubs », each forming independent networks, and linked to the national RENATER network:

* Caen university hub grouping together university campuses and the IUFM, teachers' training institution.
* the north of Caen research hub (GANIL , ENSICAEN , CYCERON )
* the Healthcare hub: (CHU University Hospital, Regional François Baclesse Comprehensive Cancer Centre)
* the Education hub providing connection between the region's schools and colleges, the CRDP - Regional Pedagogical Documentation Centre and the Caen education authority.
